Employees are people who are employed by others and paid for their work
There are two basic kinds of work:
- blue-collar workers - people who work manually or operate machines
white-collar workers - people who perform various office jobs (mostly administrative)
- fixed - it means e. g. from 7am to 3pm
flexible
- Employees can be divided into - wage workers (=wage earners) and salary workers (= wage takers).
There can be various extra pay for working overtime or at weekends.
bonuses - if the firm has good results
commission (provize) - if the sales targets are reached
benefits - sick leave, holidays, free food, live-in accommodation, health clubs and others
Nowadays a wage or salary can be sent electronically to the credit of each employee's personal account
- The contract of employment is a bilateral legal act.
It is a framework for the realization of all the rights and obligations.
The partners are the employee and the employer (usually a juristic person = organization)
The contract contains:
- kind of work
the place of work
the date of taking up work
other conditions like the pay,job benefits, qualifications improvement, shorter working time etc
-
there are various forms to start work:
- to employ somebody means to give them a job.
take on
this means to hire or employ someone (at the beginning of their period of employment).
- fire or sack
- it means that a boss makes someone leave their job, because they have done something wrong or bad (they were caught sleeping at work)
quit
to leave your job through your own choice; to resign.
to be made redundant
to lose your job because the company no longer needs the type of work you do.
- gaffer - a slang word for boss, often used in manual labour.
line manager - your immediate boss, who is not usually the boss of the whole company.
co-worker - somebody you work with, usually doing jobs of equal pay and status.
freelancer - a person who works as a writer, designer, performer etc., selling work or services by the hour, day, job, etc., instead of working regularly for just one employer.
-
People looking for jobs or organizations looking for employees can choose from the following possibilities:
- to place a job advertisement
to answer a job advertisement
to use services of a recruitment agency (náborová kancelář)
to use direct contacts
to register with a job centre
to send an unsolicited application
[/u]
For people looking for jobs, the most practical way of answering an advertisement is to send an application with the CV to the prospective employer. There they must describe their own abilities and qualifications for the job - both theoretical and practical.
- In the free market economy the quantity and kind of labour depend on the ups and downs of the whole economy
Unemployment can be caused by modernization (using inforamtuion technology), restructuring, integration, or leaning down companies (zeštíhlování)
Being unemployment doesn't have only a direct economic impact on the jobless people and their families, but is also psychologically depressive
